Cosmetic improvements
Installation difficulty? Easy
Total time: depends on part condition
DISCUSSION:
This is where everyone is allowed to go crazy! Colors, Spoilers, Air Dams, Side Skirts you name it and its available! I was getting a little tired of the stock look of my car and I always thought it would be nice to do some improvements. Unfortunately, Body pats are the #1 most expensive upgrade that you will ever install. Another problem is that body improvements do nothing for performance! So why do it? Because it looks good!
My improvements so far:
The Rear Spoiler
The factory rear spoiler adds a lot of character to the second generation RX-7. It serves no purpose and probably adds drag to the cars overall performance, but who cares! Rear spoilers come in a lot of sizes and how large you want to go depends on how much of a statement you want to make. I wanted to make a $125 dollar statement! (Actually $200 after painting )
Finding the stock GTU spoiler is easy and it usually runs about $125-150. Installation is easier . A couple holes and your done.

The 89-91 Taillights
These dam lights are the hard to find and usually very expensive! But they look great. Maybe thats why everyone wants them? I salvaged mine from a guy in Texas for $125 EACH! Ive heard some people pay over $350 just to get their hands on a pair.
Installation from an 86-88 taillight to the 89-91 light is pretty simple. The only modification you have to do is you will have to grind some metal on the car to allow for the new angle of one of the plugs. (The one that shines on the license plate.)
Electrical connections are a snap! You can even use the wiring harness from your original lights if you have too! They plug right in.
Turbo II Side Mirrors
I got these mirrors pretty cheap. $40 bucks from a guy that was parting his car out. They came to me black and in working order. (There really isnt very much in them that can break!) I got them painted silver and got to work putting them on.
Installation is once again very simple because I already had power mirrors. You just remove the black covers on the inside, unscrew three bolts, and unplug one connection. No modifications at all!

Paint
I guess I should take a line to thank KISENWETHER AUTO BODY in Drums, PA. I had the car repainted there and Ive taken all of my body upgrades to him for painting. He does an excellent job of matching the original color and his prices are reasonable.
If you ever get your 86-89 repainted: You might want to consider getting the black moldings painted! I didnt and now I regret it. The 89-91 cars all have body color moldings and they look great.
I strongly recommend that you find a guy that knows how to spray paint well! The finished product is something that your going to have to live with, so make sure it looks good!
